You might think that there’s some vengeance involved here in picking against the Patriots after they screwed us on Monday night. Not really. There’s also not a thought process of New England looked so bad against the Bears that it only makes sense to pad the points and take the Jets here. The NFL continues to prove (again and again) that last week has absolutely nothing to do with this week.
The rationale here revolves around a rejuvenated Jets team on the rise under head coach Robert Saleh. Rookie RB Breece Hall’s absence will certainly not help NY’s cause. He’s out for the season with a torn ACL. But the Jets have Michael Carter and now a potentially valuable piece in James Robinson (traded from Jacksonville) to help bolster the backfield.
Furthermore, QB Zach Wilson appears to be coming into his own. He’s 4-0 after his return from an early season injury, and the Jets have a top-10 defense in the NFL, allowing just 19.6 points per game.
Give us the +8.5 at home.
This game pits two teams who’ll likely benefit from their No. 1 QB no longer being under center. Washington backup Taylor Heinicke started slowly in his first start last week against Green Bay, but he performed well down the stretch and helped underdog Washington to an outright win against the Packers.
Heinicke, as he’s proven at both Washington and Carolina in past seasons, is a gamer and in our mind represents an upgrade over Carson Wentz (finger) at this point in his career.
Meanwhile, Indianapolis has called upon second-year pro Sam Ehlinger to make his first career NFL start against the Commanders. The Matt Ryan experiment clearly failed. Credit Indianapolis for looking to the future and seeing what it has in the former Texas product.
That said, we like Washington’s chances of going into Indy and winning the game outright against a first-time QB. Why wouldn’t we play the Commanders getting +8.5 here?
We’re also going to provide an alternative play using the same two underdogs this week, and see how that performs head-to-head against the Wong Teaser. Pairing the Jets (+120) and Commanders (+130) in a moneyline parlay checks in with odds of 4.06-1 and a 19.76% implied probability of winning.

New Orleans got the job done in a 42-34 loss to Arizona on TNF. The Saints were getting 8.5 on the adjusted teaser spread. Just an absolutely brutal outcome though on MNF with the Patriots — who crushed many Survivor pools in the process — somehow getting punked at home by the previously hapless Bears.
2022 Wong Teaser Record: 1-6
Season Bottom Line: -$620
